About Liz Mercer feature imageGiven the right climate, natural environment, nutrients and enough time, a tiny speck of grit grows into a beautiful pearl (in Latin, Perla). Perla Development has been inspired by this natural phenomenon, applying the concept to the world of work. I’m a strong believer in the power of strengths and using these to build, individual, team and organisational capability.

After graduating in Combined Sciences from Manchester Metropolitan University, most of my HR career has been spent in the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology sector.  Through a variety of HR and Learning and Development roles, I’ve partnered with Research, Development and Manufacturing businesses. As a Consultant for a boutique Leadership and Management Development consultancy, I have also worked extensively with the private and public sector.  I gained my Masters in Organisational Behaviour from the University of London in 2006 and my most recent corporate role was as the Head of Learning and Development in the EU, for a Cambridge-based Biotechnology organisation.

My track record is characterised by developing highly-effective relationships and understanding large and small company organisational dynamics. I’ve achieved notable successes in maximising individual and team performance through targeted development interventions.

I now run Perla Development, from which I offer professional and consulting services, including executive coaching, leadership and management development, team development, training, workshop design and delivery and meetings facilitation. I use a variety of approaches in the design and delivery of my work, utilising many industry-leading models and tools: for example, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Andiron Key Polarity Indicator (KPI™), Belbin Team Roles, Hogan Lead series, KornFerry 360, team diagnostics and team development toolkits.

For larger projects, I partner with a network of well-established, experienced and trusted associate colleagues.  We can deliver scaled solutions across a broad span of organisational and geographic boundaries.

I hold a Practitioner Diploma in Executive Coaching from the AoEC (Academy of Executive Coaching) earning me their Accredited Associate Executive Coach status.  I also have a working knowledge of Gestalt coaching techniques and am a member of the International Coaching Federation.

I’m known by my clients for my authenticity, encouraging nature, clarity of purpose and ability to share my knowledge and expertise in order to develop talent and build business success.

It would be great to hear how I can help you!

Erik and Liz’ portfolio features examples of larger-scale mural work, as well as posters and signs, done for various companies. The works are widely varied in terms of both subject and execution, though Liz and Erik demonstrate a consistent ability to create strong visuals for any space.

The artists’ gallery of painted objects showcases each individual’s skill set, and it’s interesting to see a variation in style while the subject matter remains somewhat consistent. As we saw in our previous feature of Erik and Liz’s murals and hand-painted signs, both seem to have a love of pop culture subject matter, ranging from the cartoonish to the realistic.

Hey there, I am Liz!

I got started with remote work when my husband and I quit our {good and stable} jobs to travel the world, hoping to make a few dollars on the side so we didn’t blow through our savings too quickly. To our surprise, we ended up starting a successful suite of tools to help Amazon sellers called Jungle Scout. Jungle Scout allowed us to continue our travels (45 countries and counting) while building an incredible business we loved working at, all while helping entrepreneurs escape their current setup or earn some extra cash on the side. We grew the company from 0 to over 100 people in 4 years.

I made my exit from Jungle Scout in 2018 (my husband still runs the company to this day). With that extra time I immediately sunk my teeth into creating ergonomic office furniture with my new company, Sleekform. I eat sleep and breathe learning about what makes up the best chairs and other furniture, how to physically get those pieces made, and how to sell them.

In early 2019 I began exploring public speaking. A few unexpected friendships and conversations later I have realized how many people (women specifically) have great businesses but have not been able to fully harness the full power of Amazon as a sales channel. I love to speak about building remote teams, systems, processes and utilizing Amazon as a channel for your business.

I am an insatiable learner, traveler, coffee and tea addict and to-do list maker. I love organizing everything, encouraging women to do things they have not thought possible and all in all just doing things on purpose and not living life on autopilot.

I would love to connect so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Here’s to living life with intention!
