Posted Over 1 Month

Time to part with my 74 BSA Chopper. This has been a project bike for 8 years. It's bounced around a few shops on the west coast for various work. It has a brand new engine. It's not titled and needs a few things done before it's roadworthy and safe to ride. It's 95% ready to ride. Here are some things I can remember it may need before riding: New tires, front brake, turn signals, valve cover gaskets and possibly a battery. The old British bikes were right foot shifter and left rear brake. A friend some years ago engineered linkage to convert to left shifter and right rear brake. This may need some alignment or just taken off. The bike is 9' long. It sits low to the ground. I'm a medium built guy and comfortable with the height. If you are over 6' tall the bike may be a little small for you. It has a custom built frame, coffin gas tank, octagon oil tank, custom upholstered King & Queen seat, wrapped fishtails, springer front end and more. This is a 12 volt dc, negative ground bike. You can put 10 harleys next to each other and everyone with checkout this 74 chopper. There's nothing like it on the road. The engine is a BSA A-65 650. Spent $4,300 restoring the engine with Countryside Cycles in Florida. Have about $10k into this bike. Fully restored could be worth twice that amount. Asking $6,850. To save us both time, serious inquiries welcome. Feel free to call with questions. Thanks for looking. 909-268-1500.

i got this bike in trade for a nice sportster in 2010. this bike was hideous so i stripped it down and made what you see before you. i lost the title and it sat for 5 years, i rode it ocassionally but couldnt title it. then i decided to sell it and was contacted by the previous owner and i now have a clean title! it was titled in 2003 with an aspt title, its listed as a 67 as that was what i was told that the engine was with later model single carb head, and electronic ignition. its a beautiful bike and a real head turner and kicks over pretty easily. heres a good video of the bike. only problems it has is the wrong clutch lever was used and it works but doesnt look good in my opinion and it leaks a little oil sometimes. but you wont find a cheaper nicer bsa around for sure. if your local i may be interested in a trade but would need at least 3k cash on top of the trade. its for sale locally and this may be removed at any time.https://youtu.be/uWhgxWVntIM <------thats a good video of the bike, https://youtu.be/PxdUL7lCLTo <-----thats a nice video of the paint at night

$13,990

1952 BSA A10 Golden Flash Bobber. Built about 6 years ago and used as a weekend Bar Hopper. Original Frame and matching 650CC engine. Head was modified for more flow and Stainless steel Valves were added. Hardened Valve seats for unleaded fuel. Heavy Duty Norton clutch and Belt drive primary for reliability. Bored .040 over. Magneto ignition with electronically regulated voltage regulator. Everything was rebuilt approximately 1500 miles ago. Custom "Deep Purple" paint that looks great but has a few chips and touch ups from use. It has a mark on the rear fender from the chain hitting it when it was out of adjustment. (pic shows it well, its very low on the fender so it is hardly noticeable) There is also 2 small areas where the paint lifted a bit on the concaved part of the fuel tank that I took a close up picture of. Nearly every part on this bike has been polished or chrome plated. Custom leather seat. This bike is surprisingly fast, Ive owned a few Triumph Bonnevilles and this bike would smoke them. Runs flawlessly and always starts on the first kick. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Anthony 520-990-7932 Will ship worldwide, email for a quote.

BSA Bobbers - Nice Bobber or Chopper Project Niche!

BSA bobbers and choppers: If you love British bobber and choppers then you will certainly know about BSA and how important they are to the British bobber and chopper scene.

BSA Bobber

BSA is an old and well known motorcycle company that conjures up fond memories of motorcycles from days gone by for those of an older generation, but for younger motorcycle enthusiasts the old BSA motorcycles are known for something else. Younger motorcycle enthusiasts like older BSA motorcycles and they allow for the building of prestige BSA bobbers and BSA choppers.

BSA was started back in 1861 in Birmingham. Initially BSA was a small arms manufacturer and the name shows this as BSA actually stands for Birmingham Small Arms Company. It was not until 1880 that BSA took the tentative steps into the motorcycle trade, this move was prompted by the decline of the arms trade.

bsa chopper

BSA had a turbulent time throughout its history of motorcycle manufacturing, this was not because of the motorcycle produced though. BSA was always at the forefront of motorcycle manufacturing but seemed to struggle with its own business and management style. This is proven by the fact that at its height the BSA motorcycle was the largest produced motorcycle in the world.

By 1972 BSA was beginning to really struggle financially. This struggle saw the business try to gain finance from the government to continue trading but instead saw the company become a part of Norton-Villiers. After absorbing BSA into its operations Norton-Villiers was renamed Norton-Villiers-Triumph, or NVT for short.

Today BSA is still a famous brand in the British motorcycle scene, this is because many love to use BSA bikes to make BSA bobbers and BSA choppers. The reason why BSA are used to make BSA bobbers and BSA choppers is because the motorcycles are well designed. This design means the frame is a great springboard for changing the motorcycle and the parts are easily changed, even by those that are not that advanced in motorcycle building.

BSA choppers and original bikes can be found fairly easily because of the numbers built over the years but can be quite costly unless found in a run down condition.

Another reason for the use of BSA bikes in bobber and chopper building is the fact that these motorcycles carry a history that cannot be found anywhere else with the exception of Norton motorcycles. For motorcycle enthusiasts worldwide there is something very special about the BSA, not simply because of its aesthetic value, but also because of the history associated with the brand.

If you are shopping for used BSA motorcycles for sale or custom choppers, you might be interested in knowing that BSA stands for Birmingham Small Arms Company.

Who knew that a manufacturer of small arms would be a manufacturer of motorcycles. Well, you learn something new every day.

When you find one of the BSAs that interests you, read the classified to see if the seller says how they would prefer to be contacted.

If this is your first visit to GoGoCycles you are about to learn how our motorcycle classifieds work.

It is really very simple and not nearly as interesting as learning what BSA stands for but if you are shopping for a new motorcycle or have one for sale, you will have something that will probably be a lot more useful than motorcycle trivia.

Click here to write your own.

If they say they want to be emailed but you see no address, all you have to do is click on the COMMENTS link found at the bottom of the classified ad. A form will pop up where you can ask questions, make offers, requests and leave your own contact information so they can get back in touch with you.

When you finish writing your e-mail you will press the button to submit it and then the seller will in return respond in whatever way you specified IF he or she still has the used BSA for sale that you were inquiring after. Sellers are asked to let us know when they no long have their BSA for sale but sometimes they don’t do is they are told so don’t get all mad at me if they don’t email or call you back.

SELLING YOUR BSA MOTORCYCLE

Here are a few suggestions on what I believe to be the best way to advertise your BSA for sale that will get you the best results.

The first step is to write a detailed description of your BSA motorcycle for sale using decent grammar (PLEASE DON’T TYPE IN CAPS and spell check your ad). List as many details as possible including the year it was manufactured, any upgraded parts and accessories that you may have added during your ownership (and any factory parts that you kept that will come for the asking price), plus any helmets, saddlebags or gear that you are including in the deal.

THEN, you should take some flattering pictures of the BSA motorcycle for sale to show it to best advantage not camouflage any flaws. You can upload as many as four pictures of your BSA (or just one if you think that will do the trick). If you are super confident the bike’s going to sell, you can even skip this step completely but if you do you should expect to get lots of questions from potential buyers that want to know why there are no pictures on your classified!

When you are finished you will then preview your ad to see if it looks like you want it to and then you can push the button to submit it.

THEN a box will pop up after the preview and you should indicate that you would prefer to ONLY to get comments when potential buyers comment unless you want to hear about EACH and EVERY motorcycle for sale in GoGoCycles motorcycle classifieds.

Old-School BSA Choppers

Old School BSA Choppers

BSA CHOPPERS WERE HIP
Back in the very-late-1970s and very-early-1970s, crazy guys (usually without a whole lot of money to work with) were chopping everything with two wheels. I had a couple of buddies who chopped their 350 Hondas, and Honda 750 choppers weren’t uncommon. For the guys who couldn’t afford to step up to a Harley, they would often chop old Brit bikes like Triumphs, BSA, and the like. BSA Choppers were never as common as Triumph choppers, but they were out there. We love looking at custom bikes of all kinds, all brands and types. Choppers, Bobbers, Rat Bikes, and Cafe Racers all exhibit tastes, ideas, innovations, and creative solutions, all quite unique, and very much to the taste of the owner and/or builder. In the case of 60s- and 70s-era Old School stuff like you’ll see here, many of these custom bikes are time capsules, indicators of the times, the mindset during those times, and hardware and tech that was available to them back then, and often the budgetary constraints they surely must have been under. Here are a few BSA Choppers for you to enjoy:

‘Old School’ is right. This 1966 BSA 500 got the classic early-1970s treatment. Rigid tail section welded to a stock frame (doesn’t appear to be raked), period-correct aftermarket oil tank, extended stock forks, “Coffin” tank, “Banana” seat and sissy bar. And check out that classic pinstripe job. I think I rode this bike in high school.

This bike just changed hands and the new owner, Dale Martin of Spanaway WA writes: “I just purchased it 3 weeks ago. It’s a project. 1966 BSA 500 twin chopper. Haven’t had it running yet. Changed the handlebars & a few other things already, having a lot of fun working on it. I’m 70 years young & always wanted a BSA since the 50’s when I was a kid.” Congratulations, Dale, it looks like you got your wish.

1970, HERE I COME!
Talk about Old-School, this BSA A65-based Chopper must have once been a star! I found it at the Brook’s Cycles Auction in 2011. Looks like a stock BSA frame front-section with a welded-on hardtail. Check out those crazy pipes. Of course, that stretched-out Springer is the start of the show along with two stacked rectangular headlights. Polish this one up and go for a ride. Lots of polish.

NEW-SCHOOL OLD-SCHOOLE
I caught this lovely BSA Chopper in the service department at Raber’s in San Jose CA (my favorite motorcycle shop on Earth) in July 2014. While a definite Old-School vibe, this looks like a very well-built machine, put together from modern parts. Many old Brit choppers running around today are ‘period-pieces’, relics from the 60s or 70s, built out of parts that were available back then, and likely built on a shoestring budget, by amateurs. Get the picture? Take a look at some of the other Old School bikes on this page then look at this one again. The frame looks like an aftermarket rigid rather than something cobbled-together. Then check out that robust Girder front end. It looks like it actually works quite well. I love that tiny front brake drum, which was a very common mod back in the 70s when certain states required a front brake, but chopper builders didn’t want big ugly drums out front. (Disc brakes were still a fantasy back then). Everything seems to fit just right on this bike, and the proportions and the stance are just perfect. This looks like a professional build, my guess done in modern times but made to appear as an Old-School BSA Chopper. The 650 A65 twin engine is clean (that’s one thing you can say about unit-contruction BSA engines, they’re clean of line), and the primary cover has been cutaway to show and ventilate the (dry) belt drive and clutch. Nice bike.

Modern BSA Choppers

BEEZERKER BY FALCON ENGINEERING
I spied this awesome machine at the 2011 Quail Motorcycle Gathering in Carmel CA. Built by Falcon Engineering out of SoCal, these guys have a whole line of unbelievable customs based around classic British motorcycle engines. This is just a sample of their imagination and craftsmanship. But it it a BSA Chopper? Probably not. It’s sort of a cross between a Bobber and a Cafe Racer, but it was too cool to pass up.
