Primeval titan

You gotta hand it to Kanister, he always brews up some sweet ones. This week it’s Amulet Titan and Reanimator smashed together, which has a real “you got peanut butter in my chocolate” energy. Let’s see how early you can get a Primeval Titan into play!

Header - The Game Plan

Reanimate or cast Primeval Titan and bury the opponent in value. Dryad of the Ilysian Grove turns on Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and accelerates your plans dramatically.

This deck asks the question: “what if you did everything in your power to get a Titan out by turn three?” It’s got some cool stuff going for it as a result, and can play a value game as needed.

Primeval Titan (Timeshifted)Amulet of Vigor

Prime Time is the biggest draw, but Amulet of Vigor plays a sizable role as well. The usual pair to get with Amulet out is Hanweir Battlements plus a red source, though Tolaria West plus a bounceland can let you chain Titans via Summoner’s Pact as well.

Dryad of the Ilysian GroveValakut, the Molten Pinnacle

Between enabling Valakut and letting you play extra lands, Dryad does a ton for you. It’s also a 2/4, so it’s got quite reasonable stats.

PersistUnmarked Grave

The reanimator package doesn’t take up much room, and while it mainly gets Titan, can also get Dryad or sideboard options. It leads to insanely fast Titans, and is worth devoting a bunch of slots to.

Header - Tips and Tricks

  • Tolaria West can grab Summoner’s Pact or any land, making it a very flexible card. Bouncelands also mean you can play it early as a land without fear.
  • The Underworld Cookbook is another way to get a Titan into your graveyard early.
  • Dryad plus Valakut is strong enough that it’s often worth getting Valakut on spec even if you don’t have Dryad yet.

Is this better than classic Amulet Titan? I’m not sure, and neither is Kanister (though I did make a few changes he suggested after he 5-0ed, which was to replace Urborg and Witch’s Cottage). This deck does add a sweet twist to two different archetypes, and it’s cool seeing new brews continue to pop up in Modern. Good luck!
