How does Xfinity compare to CenturyLink, AT&T, and others?

In general, Xfinity’s promotional prices are pretty competitive with other large internet providers in the same areas. Let’s take a look at how some specific Xfinity internet plan prices compare to ISPs like CenturyLink, AT&T, Frontier, and Spectrum across different parts of the US.

How do Xfinity internet prices compare in the Northeast?

^Wireless speeds may vary.

The price for Xfinity’s 100 Mbps plan in the Northeast is almost too good to be true. You’ll pay almost double for the same speeds from other ISPs in the Northeast like AT&T and Spectrum. Not to mention that AT&T’s Up to 75 Mbps plan is fully DSL—an older technology that’s prone to slow speeds and other problems.

On the other hand, AT&T’s Internet 100 plan is a DSL and fiber hybrid connection, which should boost speeds. The AT&T Internet 100 plan also comes with unlimited data, as does the Spectrum Internet® plan. (Xfinity’s plans all have a 1.2 TB data cap.) Not to mention neither AT&T nor Spectrum requires a contract, while Xfinity usually does.

That means Xfinity falls behind a little when it comes to its Gigabit plan: AT&T Fiber’s Internet 1,000 plan is priced too well to pass up. Though the Spectrum Internet® Gig plan pushes the budget limits a bit too much, even with unlimited data and no contracts.

In the Central US, Xfinity’s price for its 100 Mbps is a tad cheaper compared to other providers in the area like AT&T , but almost right in line with Windstream.

Our only hesitation is that Windstream offers unlimited data on all of its internet plans, and AT&T offers unlimited data on its Internet 100 plan. But sadly, Xfinity  still enforces a data cap of 1.2 TB.

And what about that Xfinity Gigabit plan price? It lands smack-dab in the middle of AT&T’s and Frontier’s prices for their gig-speed plans. But Windstream’s Kinetic Gig is by far the best deal (where promotional pricing is considered). Of course, you’ll get an extra 200 Mbps with Xfinity’s Gigabit plan, which might make it the better deal if you need that extra oomph for running a home business or Plex server.

At about $5 less than other internet providers, the cost of Xfinity’s 100 Mbps plan in the Western US is pretty competitive. At least if you’re okay with a 1-year contract.

If you prefer to go without signing a contract, you’ll pay $55 a month for those 100 Mbps speeds. That makes the Xfinity Performance Select plan the most expensive option in this comparison—especially since CenturyLink doesn’t bump up your bill to avoid a contract.

CenturyLink may not deliver on speeds as well as Xfinity, but its plans do come with unlimited data as well as no contracts. The only downside? CenturyLink is a DSL connection, which tends to be less reliable and may suffer from slower speeds compared to Xfinity’s cable connection.

As for Xfinity Gigabit plan prices in the West, we’d say it’s on the expensive side, but might still be a good deal. Sure, it doesn’t come without a contract or unlimited data like CenturyLink’s Fiber Internet plan, but you get a little extra speed at a much lower price.

Sure, CenturyLink’s gig plan is pretty limited in availability, but if you can get it we say it might just be a better deal than the Xfinity Gigabit plan.

Is Xfinity internet cheap?

For the most part, Xfinity’s promotional prices make it a cheap internet service compared to other companies serving similar areas. There are a few exceptions to this, especially since Xfinity mostly requires contracts and caps your data at 1.2 TB.

  • Compared to AT&T: Versus AT&T’s DSL internet plans, Xfinity is a clear winner. But AT&T Fiber one-ups Xfinity with a low price, unlimited data, and no contracts.
  • Compared to CenturyLink: CenturyLink’s unlimited data and lack of contracts might sway some folks, but its slow DSL speeds and high prices make Xfinity a better choice if you’re concerned about internet speed and cost. (Though CenturyLink’s fiber internet might make up some ground.)
  • Compared to Frontier: If it’s a toss-up between Frontier DSL internet and Xfinity, go with Xfinity. Otherwise, Frontier’s FiberOptic internet might be a better choice thanks to newer technology, unlimited data, and similar prices.
  • Compared to Spectrum: If you’re more concerned about no contracts and unlimited data, Spectrum’s slightly higher prices might still be a better deal. But the sky-high cost of its gig plan makes the Xfinity Gigabit plan a much better choice.

If you’re still not sure whether to choose Xfinity over another internet provider, these other reviews might help.

Comcast Xfinity is the nation's largest cable internet provider, but does that automatically make it the best? I was impressed by the variety of internet speed plans offered, but my eyes started to glaze over as I dug into the details.

With Xfinity, some plans require you to sign a one-year contract, others require a two-year commitment and some require no contract at all. Beyond that, you'll need to contend with a data cap each month, and you can expect the price of your plan to increase over time, sometimes to almost double the initial charge.

Like

  • Good variety of plans
  • One of the fastest residential plans available
  • Above average scores in almost all customer satisfaction metrics

Don't Like

  • Data caps for all plans, no unlimited options
  • Contracts required to get the lowest price
  • Steep jump from promo price to regular rates

Headaches like that are par for the course with internet providers, and they can make it difficult to tell if you're actually getting a good deal on your home's internet connection. Still, Xfinity is available to more than a third of the country, and for many in that footprint, it's the fastest option available. That means it's worth understanding what you might be getting -- especially if you feel the need for speed and fiber isn't an option for your area or address.

Here are the plans you can get with Xfinity Internet

Depending on where you live, Xfinity offers up to seven different internet plans, and if you want the best price, you'll have to shackle yourself to a contract. Here are the specifics:

Fastest Comcast Internet Speed? Real-world speedtest results for Xfinity's Gig Pro 3 Gbps plan

Xfinity Internet Plans and Deals

We’ve dived into the details of each internet-only package from Xfinity to help you choose the package that’s right for you.

Xfinity Performance Starter Plus: $34.99/mo.

Speed: 50 Mbps

The Xfinity Performance Starter Plus package offers reliable speeds for light Internet users. With download speeds up to 50 Mbps, households with a single device using the Internet at a time can easily share photos, download music, and shop online.

View Xfinity Plans

Xfinity Performance Pro Plus: $59.99/mo.

Speed: 200 Mbps

For just $25 more a month, the Performance Pro Plus package offers four times as much speed as the Performance Starter Plus package, making it great for households with three to five devices online at a time. Internet users who need a little more speed and spend more time downloading can share photos, surf online, and stream multiple TV shows quickly and reliably.

View Xfinity Plans

Xfinity Blast! Pro Plus: $74.99/mo.

Speed: 400 Mbps

Blast Pro Plus! is one of Xfinity’s best internet-only deals for heavy home internet users: five or more devices online at the same time can stream and download HD videos and transfer large multimedia files simultaneously. The fast, reliable Wi-Fi speeds also allow for multiplayer online gaming across several screens and access to millions of nationwide hotspots.

View Xfinity Plans

Gigabit: $94.99/mo.

Speed: 1,000 Mbps

The Xfinity Gigabit internet service will handle the needs of the heaviest internet users. Speeds up to 1 Gbps (1,000 Mbps) will download multimedia files in 30 seconds, HD movies in 10 seconds, and full music albums instantaneously. Of course, it’s more expensive but worth it if you don’t ever want to worry about slow internet speeds.

View Xfinity Plans

Gigabit Pro: $299.95/mo.

Speed: 2,000 Mbps

The Xfinity Gigabit Pro Internet service borders on excessive speeds and is for people with absolutely no free time whatsoever. Speeds up to 2 Gbps (2,000 Mbps) allow households to download multimedia files in 60 seconds, HD movies in 20 seconds, and full music albums in less than a second. This plan is extremely fast, but it’s also extremely difficult to get. Availability is limited, and you’ll likely have to pay an additional hefty installation fee for the fiber infrastructure.

What Is Xfinity Blast

What Is Xfinity Blast?

Xfinity is a well-known internet service provider that is acknowledged to be serving customers in 40 states across the United States. It is one of the most reliable and high-speed internet providers and is fortunately found almost all over the United States. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Comcast infinity has introduced several updates to its high-speed internet service.

One of which is the Xfinity blast that gives a high-speed internet service of 250 Mbps to 275 Mbps. So there is an increase in speed up to 25 percent and this speed upgrade is available in several regions of the US. In addition to high-speed internet and free service for two months to new customers, they are also offering unlimited internet for all of its users for 60 days. Comcast says that 80 percent of their customers will have a speed of 150 Mbps or more without any change in the bill.

Affordable gigabit internet is yet not available in the US, unfortunately (and unsurprisingly) and Comcast does not point out any adjustments to its upload speeds, which remains a small fraction of what you get for downloads. Xfinity internet provides its users in selected areas the downloading speeds as much as 2000 Mbps. If you want to check how fast your Xfinity internet velocity is, use the WhistleOut Xfinity broadband pace test. All Xfinity plans offer statistics utilization of 1000 GB in line with the billing cycle.

Xfinity introduced Xfinity blast as in fact an upgrade from Performance Pro and is great for much of the same activity with a few more devices attached. Additionally, a few of the customers will not note the considerable difference between Xfinity Blast and Performance Pro but surprisingly with the low cost, it can be worth it in regarding its upgrade. It provides high-speed internet for up to 2-4 users with 6-7 devices. The Xfinity blast service costs up to $59.99 per month and can vary according to your region.

What are the Pros of Xfinity Blast fast internet services?

• Very reliable and rapid download speeds.
• Available nearly anywhere in the US.
• Increased number of users and more importantly additional devices for users.

What are the cons of Xfinity Blast fast internet services?

• The price can vary and depends on the location.
• Lacks a good customer support system.

Their prices vary according to location and by that I mean it is of more benefit to customers living in the western and northeast areas, as the users in the central region have to pay a bit more as compared to them. Due to COVID-19 Xfinity has devoted to assisting the customers, personnel, and communities suffering from the impact of the coronavirus by:

• Giving them the option to select the billing date according to their ease.
• For low-income homes they provide services for $9.95 per month.
• If your address qualifies then the Self-installation is provided.

If we look at the full cost breakdown of this package then it provides up to 250 bps for $59.99 per month with 0$ upfront for BYO modem. For professional installation, it costs up to $59.99 and for Self-installation the rates are $15.

How does it work?

The first question that pops up in our minds is how does this work? First things first, all you need to do is check their website and read all the information they provide you for their Blast Xfinity high internet services. If you are new to this they also provide modem rent services which charge up to $14 per month.

Their website also provides the Xfinity speed test which can help you compare their internet speed to others if you already use Xfinity. You can call them to learn more about their packages and available internet speeds in your range. Or you can check their website which has an option to search its availability in your area. To find the service providers enter your address or ZIP and you can even compare the internet service providers.

Before selecting the internet deal make sure you know exactly what you are paying for and if it’s best according to your steaming and usage. Xfinity blast is not only good for email and browsing but it provides great services if you are a user of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and HBO. If you choose for professional installation they charge according to your area and you can even get it installed on the weekend or at night. As for the Self-installation option, the charges are $15.

For 12 month Xfinity program they have 30 days period of money-back guarantee just in case you decide to terminate the offer and therefore, after 1 month you will have to pay for the remaining months. They provide XFi modem renting services which cost about $13 per month but bringing your modem bought from amazon can cut you some slack and save some money. Due to lock down or even before it Xfinity aids its customers by providing online ordering programs.

So through Xfinity.com you can easily sign up for Xfinity blast or can even upgrade your program to Xfinity Blast any time. If you choose the online ordering system along with Self-installation it can save you time and money.

Their website is easy to use and provides maximum information needed. The Xfinity Blast internet offer is probably best for binge-watchers and gamers. If you choose the professional installation option then it takes up to 4 hours and you can save your time by self-installing it by DIY option in an hour or so. After getting the offer if you still feel that your speed is running slow then it is better to note certain aspects like:

• Speed of Wi-Fi connection is slow as compared to a hardwired connection due to wireless connection interference.
• Speed also depends on the number of devices connected, the amount of opened programs, and uploads in progress as well.

Due to its wide availability of as much as 80% across the division of the US, along with promising high speed, Xfinity Blast qualifies to be quite reliable. And its contribution to COVID-19 is extraordinary and due to lockdown when everyone is staying home, it is best for binge-watchers and gamers to enjoy its services.

Xfinity Internet Plans, Pricing, and Deals

Xfinity bundles in your area

If you’re in the market for more than just internet and don’t want an Xfinity internet-only plan, bundling multiple services gets you the best Xfinity internet prices. Depending on where you live, you can save up to $20 off two services, $40 off three services, and $60 off four services (Xfinity offers home security plans in some areas).

Xfinity’s TV plans aren’t necessarily the cheapest. But thanks to add-ons like the X1 DVR and free Peacock Premium, they’ll still offer decent value if you want the convenience that comes from bundling services. If you’re regularly calling overseas family members or need a landline for a home security system, you can also add Xfinity phone service to your bundle.

To learn more about what to expect from multiple Xfinity services, head over to our Xfinity bundles review.

Data effective as of publish date. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.

Xfinity cell phone plans and bundles

Current Xfinity customers can sign up for Xfinity Mobile—it’s not available to anyone else. The exclusivity makes sense since Xfinity doesn’t have its own mobile network and uses Verizon’s for this service.

Xfinity Mobile offers only a couple of plans, but if you don’t use a lot of data, Xfinity’s By the Gig plan can be super affordable. Who likes scrolling endlessly through social media apps, anyway?

(“I do,” whispers this writer. The night looms, and a distant wolf howls. “I do.”)

We don’t have a full Xfinity Mobile review (yet!), but you can learn more about the service on the official Xfinity Mobile page. And if you decide to go for Xfinity Mobile, you can save $10 per month on qualifying Xfinity Internet plans. Sweet.

Xfinity’s internet network is a hybrid of a fiber-optic backbone to carry internet signals quickly over long distances and coaxial cables to affordably carry internet directly to your home.

In some urban areas, Xfinity has built up its fiber-optic network. This allows for super-fast gig plans, including Gigabit Pro—the fastest gig plan on the market today.

Along with 2,000 Mbps (2 Gbps) download speeds and similarly fast upload speeds from Xfinity, Gigabit Pro also has unlimited data usage. The power! Imagine how many 4K Ultra HD movies you can stream without worrying about going over your data cap.

But Gigabit Pro comes with a two-year agreement and a whopping $299.95 per month price tag.

Since Gigabit Pro is excessive in every way, we don’t blame you if you decide to check yourself before you wreck yourself. The plain ole Gigabit plan offers a still-blazing-fast 1,200 Mbps for $70.00 to $84.99 per month, depending on where you live. That’s $214.85 less at the very least.

But the choice is still yours. If you gotta go fast, you gotta go fast—right?

Xfinity fiber internet lets you:

  • Stream 4K video on multiple devices
  • Download HD movies in minutes
  • Game online without lag
  • Upload large files for work

Xfinity data usage and unlimited data

Xfinity internet data cap

Xfinity recently raised the data usage limits (or data caps) on its plans from 1 TB (1,024 GB) to 1.2 TB (1,229 GB). That’s plenty of data for most families to do all their browsing, Instagram scrolling, and Netflix marathoning.

Keep in mind, our day-to-day internet usage grows all the time. Say you get a new 4K TV, and you start streaming 4K videos all the time. Since 4K videos can use more than three times as much data as typical HD streaming, you might run through your data faster than you realize.

If you go overboard with your data usage, Xfinity can charge you up to $200 per month each time you do. At least Xfinity will send you some warnings once you start reaching your limits, so you don’t have to let your data usage keep you up at night.

Check out our Xfinity data cap guide to learn more about Xfinity’s data cap policies.

Xfinity internet unlimited data

To avoid data overage charges, you can sign up for unlimited data for $30 per month or—if the option is available in your area—get unlimited data with the xFi complete play for only $25 per month.

Or, if for some reason you really want the over-bloated Gigabit Pro plan (the one with 2,000 Mbps for $299.95 per month), you don’t have to worry about paying more for unlimited data—that comes included.

Xfinity internet equipment

When you sign up for an Xfinity internet plan, you’ll need some internet equipment. Xfinity will offer you an Xfinity gateway—the current model is called Xfinity xFi—and a free-of-charge streaming device called Xfinity Flex.

Xfinity gateways are modem/routers that support your phone, internet, and Wi-Fi connection. Xfinity brags about its gateway’s long list of features, but we can sum most of those up by saying the gateway is secure and it works.

There are a few interesting aspects of renting an Xfinity gateway—the current gateway Xfinity xFi has built-in parental controls, tech support, and app compatibility.

But you can save a lot more money in the long run by buying your own Xfinity-compatible modem and router. Head over to our “Best Xfinity-Compatible Modems” article for help picking out the right one for your Xfinity plan.

Xfinity xFi (Xfinity Wi-Fi)

The Xfinity xFi gateway costs $14 per month to rent. You’ll have a secure connection, and you can manage your controls from your computer or phone with the Xfinity app (available on Google Play or the Apple App Store).

The Xfinity app will help you with your internet equipment installation. You can also use it to control your Wi-Fi network name and password. You can even pause the Wi-Fi connection or set kid-friendly protections right from your phone.

If nothing else, you can use the Xfinity xFi and the app from your bed if you think your teen is using the Wi-Fi in the middle of the night (although with smartphones, the ole “hand over your phone” trick is probably best—your xFi won’t control mobile networks).

Also, if your house is bigger than 2,000 square feet, add on xFi Complete to blanket your home with that sweet Wi-Fi love. Your total xFi costs will be $25 per month, but you’ll get unlimited data and any extenders you need to get Wi-Fi throughout a large home.

Xfinity hidden costs

Depending on your exact Xfinity package, your bill might come with charges ranging from equipment to regional sports channel fees. Visit our Xfinity hidden costs guide to learn about which fees you can avoid and which ones you’ll have to live with.

Xfinity xFi features

When you sign up for an internet-only plan, Xfinity gives you an Xfinity Flex free of charge. The Xfinity Flex is a streaming device sort of like a Roku. You can use it to watch TV with apps like Peacock, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video right on your TV. There’s even a voice remote! It’s all very convenient.

So why is the Xfinity Flex free? Er, the jury’s still out on that one.

Xfinity could be giving the Xfinity Flex out solely based on the kindness of its corporate heart. But the Xfinity Flex is still pretty new, and it’s kinda crummy—so maybe Xfinity is tapping into its customer base for free beta testing.

If you want to look this gift horse in the mouth some more (and you really should—no one wants to be saddled with caring for a cavity-ridden horse), join us over at our full Xfinity Flex review.

How to get Xfinity Wi-Fi plans

You can get a Xfinity home Wi-Fi plan by following three easy steps:

  1. Choose an Xfinity internet plan
  2. Order Xfinity internet online or over the phone
  3. Add xFi to your internet plan

Xfinity Prepaid Internet is Xfinity’s no-contract and flat-rate internet package. For $15 per week or $45 per month, you’ll get a 50 Mbps internet connection and won’t have to deal with a service agreement or price increases after your first year. Check out our full Xfinity Prepaid Internet review to learn more about the service.

Xfinity customer satisfaction

Xfinity earned excellent scores as the second-best internet provider in our annual customer satisfaction survey. The provider didn’t land lower than third place in categories including value, equipment quality, and ease of installation.
