Found a bug? Please specify in the title what version number via brackets you're using. I.e.

The following issues will be closed on sight:

  • [2.0.3-] - This and earlier versions are no longer supported, as the mod has moved on.
  • [Non-OpenGL Renderers] - The old Carmack ZDoom renderer support was dropped in favor of slowly gaining increased multiplayer support and higher quality visuals.

These rules are for contributing directly towards Doom4Doom via pull requests.

  1. No DECORATE or ACS allowed.
  • DECORATE is now deprecated entirely. There's not a shred of DECORATE left except for the damagetypes.
  • Anything you can do in ACS can now be done in ZScript. If you need help, ask.
  1. Detail your commits.
  • You must specify all that has changed if you wish to have a higher chance of acceptance.
  1. Notify us of defects/caveats.
  • If you know there are issues or problems, tell us and we'll help you work out what said problems are.
  1. Rejections may not be final.
  • If you're asked to change something, the Pull Request may be left open. This depends on how big and complex the code is.
  • Pull requests may be contested with the primary developers at any time, which may delay the process.
  • If a PR is ultimately declined for a specific permanent reason, it is considered final and should be dropped.
  1. Use a program like SourceTree or GitKraken to upload files.
  1. Use proper indentation.
  • Tabs, not spaces, should be used when making adjustments. Thus, you should use a programmer's notepad or SLADE to perform the edits.

  • While I do have the email system set up, sometimes I miss the notification from being gone.

Hello everyone.

Sorry I havent been very active over here, but I've been focusing all my modding attention on my other project, and probably will continue that way for quite a while. Overall, I think I've given all I could give to D4D in terms of it's direction. It's no secret that my other project is very similar to this one; but it has completely different aims on many things, and that's the path I want to continue exploring. Because of that I've neglected D4D a lot, and due to some stuff that will be happening in RL in the upcoming year, I just know I wont have enough time to keep this particular "high-profile" mod updated or in a healthy state.

Considering all that, Im leaving this project, and it stays in the hands of the other devs. This doesnt mean much in terms of "what's gonna happen to the mod", since the team is quite capable of handling it and moving it forward.


I just wanted to make this little announcement to explain why this thread is getting locked, why I won't be giving updates myself about D4D in the future, and why it's gonna be kinda futile to report bugs / post suggestions for it to me.

As soon as the new D4D thread is created, it will be linked here so that whoever stumbles on this thread as it gets buried, they'll still have a handy link to find the newer version.

ModDB links will probably stay around for the 1.x and 2.x versions of the mod, but newer versions will most likely be hosted somewhere else and/or by someone else.

On a personal note, I want to thank everyone for playing this thing, and letting me know how much fun they've had with the mod, for the suggestions, complaints and even hate. You all got us to get the gameplay cacoward, and overall, it's been crazy!

And thanks to everyone who participated in contributing stuff to the mod! Heh, Im making it sound like the mod is dying or as if I was. It's neither. It's only an administration change :P

Once again, thanks everyone. Im glad I was able to participate in a project that had such crazy reach.

Bringing weapons we loved from Doom4, and adapting monsters into a classic style, this is the result of about 6 months of hard work and the dedication of 3 people: DBThanatos, Major Cooke & Michaelis

We proudly bring Doom(4) for Doom.

Our own tribute to a fantastic game, that despite being awesome, left us wanting more! So, we ported it back to it's ancestor. And that's what we have here.



Version 2.0

What's new?

- More weapons: Now we bring the long awaited MP weapons: Repeater rifle, vortex rifle, and the completely new "hellshot": The Carrion Cannon!
- More upgrades: Sad because Some weapons didnt have upgrades? Well, be sad no more! Not only the new weapons have upgrades, we took care of the oldies too! Pistol, Static Rifle, Lightning gun, and even the BFG have upgrades now!
- Glory Kills: Long awaited! You can now do finisher moves on monsters! Go nuts
- Glory Kill Options: So you dont like them to stagger? you dont like the highlights? you dont like them being noisy? you dont like them being staggered for too long? You dont like glory kills at all? Well, go insane personalizing this stuff to your liking
- New powerups: Haste, Quad Damage, Regeneration, and even a Quad Money! Oh yes
- Suit upgrades: No need to have crazy argent cells and praetor tokens and all that. Just use your hard earned credits to enhance your armor suit to do all kinds of crazy stuff.
- Demon runes: Be the demon and kill everyone around you.
- Reworked upgrade menu: Less shiny. Much more useful.
- And too many other things to list. Find out yourself!

Remember, you must always rebind your keys! Lots of stuff have changed!

This is a little program to create a Doom 2016 music randomizer to use with D4D. You must already own the OST.

Q: What is this?
A: It's a program to easily create a PK3 with Doom4 music that you can run along
D4D.

Q: Does it have the Doom 4 music?
A: No. You have to own the Doom OST already. This program includes NO MUSIC at all.

Q: How do I use it?
A: Okay, here's a step by step:
1. Unpack the .rar into a new folder.
2. Put all the OST tracks you want to be playing in game, inside the folder
"Please Put Your Music Here, Thank You!!!"
3. Run "2music3pk.exe"
4. Copy the generated d4dMusic.pk3 into your D4D folder.
5.a Run the "D4D DragAndDrop.bat"
5.b Add the d4dMusic.pk3 to your launcher or command line with which you launch
D4D normally.

Q: My antivirus blocked it / says it's suspicious / says it's got viruses!
A: Yes, many antiviruses will detect it as being potentially malicious. It's not.
We are not here to mess with players; no harmful code was added, but we take
no resposibility for the use of it.
If your antivirus will not let it run, you must deactivate it temporarily;
after the D4Dmus.pk3 has been made, you can reactivate your AV. As noted
in the header, DO NOT RUN THIS PROGRAM if you didn't get it from DBT's
modDB page.

Q: Is this for doom 1, doom 2, and will it work in custom mapsets?
A: It will run with anything you throw it in with. What this does, is to play
randomly one of the tracks you supplied into a map. Each map will play
a different track. If you have more tracks than maps, it will start
repeating songs.

Q: It wont run in my machine because I have a 32bit OS!
A: Sorry, it's for 64bit only ATM. We're looking how to get it for 32bit too!

** IMPORTANT INFO! **

USE GZDoom 2.2.0, NOT DEVBUILDS! THEY MESS UP STUFF!

This mod uses a whole bunch of custom options. It's highly recommended to install this is a fresh folder, since this mod is gonna work a lot with custom bindings which might not play along nicely with the regular bindings in other mods

HUGE LETTERS BECAUSE PEOPLE IGNORE THE DOCUMENTATION
Q. Can I run it with brutal doom?
A. No. "Brutal doom" and "Doom(4) for Doom" are both gameplay mods that cannot be stacked on top of each other. Same goes for any gameplay mod.
Nor should you add other gameplay mods, like monster randomizers or Qtilt. If you add custom monsters on top of this, you'll get almost no credits (currency), special effects (stun and whatnot) and special rewards. If you add Qtilt, footsteps and whatnot, it will break several of the D4D effects.

  • YOU MUST BIND YOUR D4D KEYS: There's quite a few. Go under Options -> D4D mod options -> Customize Keybinds
  • Remember you can always exit a demon morph at any time by pressing the "mod switch" key.
  • For better view of the D4 reticles, disable your standard crosshair
  • There's an entire file with information of what does each D4D option does. READ IT!
  • You can switch to standard doom monsters instead of the custom D4D ones. Go to . Go to Options -> D4D mod options -> Monster type to change it
  • This mod is NOT easy. Ultra violence is Ultra violence despite looking like it's in place of "Normal". The next skills are harder, for real. Dont come to complain "Nightmare is too hard" ;)
  • For the love of god. After buying a weapon mod, make sure to equip it!

Q. What is this?
A. "Doom(4) for Doom" (D4D) is a gameplay mod that brings the Doom 2016 weapons into the classic Doom maps via GZdoom. It also brings some similar monster minus the dynamic AI and mobility.

Q. What to expect?
A. The mod tries to bring the weapons as accurately as possible in looks, behavior and timings. However, we also took some liberties regarding some behaviors and balance. For example, the "Double Trouble" super shotgun, when ported in here became extremely overpowered, so we completely reworked it. Another instance is the "Gatling Rotator" mod for the chaingun, which makes it now fire explosive rounds.

Q. Does it include every single weapon in Doom4 including the multiplayer weapons?
A. Not every single one of them. All the single player weapons are there, and most of the multiplayer ones. Not the latest "the reaper" one, since that's just too new.

Q. Do the single player weapons have all the mods and upgrades?
A. Mods: yes. Upgrades: no.
In D4D all moddable weapons have their respective mods, but once acquired, they dont have "upgrades". All mods are in a fixed upgrade state compared to doom4. When you get "Micro Missiles" for the HAR, they will be "Bottomless" already. Another example, the "Lock on" Rocket Launcher mod, when acquired, will not have the multiple targets upgrade, instead, it stays the way it is when picked.
The Super Shotgun and the MP weapons, since they dont have mods, they do have a few upgrades you can buy to enhance it.

Q. Can I run it with brutal doom?

Q. Can I run it with enhancement packs (high res textures, custom decorations, terrain packs)?
A. Most cases: yes. If the pack in question doesnt alter gameplay or alter monster looks/behaviour, it should run fine along D4D. However, if the pack defines it's custom monsters to add extra gore, effects, etc, it's very likely that it will end up messing D4D.

Q. Can I run this in Zandronum and/or multiplaer?
A. This mod is specifically designed for GZdoom since it uses really new features of the engine. If Zandronum catches with the GZDoom development, it could be playable in single player. Multiplayer is not currently supported and will probably glitch out if attempted.

Q. Does this mod have "ledge grabbing" and "glory kills"?
A. Yes.

Q. What about double jump?
A. It's there, but it's completely optional and can be turned on/off at any moment.

Q. Are the custom monsters a separate addon?
A. No. They are part of the core D4D. However, you can select the option to play with classic doom(2) monsters instead of D4D's. The classic monsters have zero changes regarding behaviour/damage/balance compared to the originals. They do, however, have slightly updated visual effects. Keep in mind that the classic Doom monsters tend to be easier to deal with than theor D4D counterparts.

Q. Are the skill levels untouched?
A. No. D4D has new skill levels. In general, it makes the game harder, and Ultra violence remains ultraviolence despite being higher up in the list of skills. The skills below that one are way harder and are not recommended for players that don't like challenges. Keep in mind however, that you can select easier skills or as mentioned above, use the classic doom monsters to play a difficulty combination that fits better you style.

Q. Do weapons have reload?
A. No. They didn't have reload in Doom4. They don't here.

Q. Will you add maps?
A. I cant map myself. But if anyone wants to give this a go, he/she will be welcome aboard!

Spoiler: "The End of the Road"


I've decided that after this release, unless there are any groundbreaking bugs caused by updates with GZDoom, that this is the final version. I'm no longer going to develop new features for this mod, and on May 22, 2021, I plan on closing this thread and sending it to the grave yard.

I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone whose played D4D. Without your feedback, this mod wouldn't be where it is now.

But I'm not done yet. DE4D is coming next. Look forward to a trailer sometime soon, most likely in 2021. There's a lot to do, and little time to do it. I'll see you all on the other side. ♥

  • Script error, "D4D.pk3:animdefs.aed" line 3:
    Unknown texture UAC_ROT0

    Either you're trying to load D4DResources.pk3 manually or you're missing it. Make sure D4DResources.pk3 is inside the same directory as D4D.pk3 and do not add the resources pack to your load list. D4D.pk3 will automatically do that for you.

Doom (D4D Mod) - Full Gameplay - No Commentary
I'm going to admit it. I love D4D. I decided to make a small mod for it, which doesn't have any official title because I couldn't think of any. :PIt's nothing earth-shattering (probably a good thing because otherwise the Earth would have been shattered to pieces and wiped all life out), so don't expect any brand new monsters or weapons like that.

Features
  • Gibbable Corpses: With certain explosive weapons, such as the Rocket Launcher, you can gib corpses and potentially gain any Carrion tokens that you may have missed out on. Note that the Cyberdemon, Spider Mastermind, and all Classic monsters, who still leave corpses when gibbed, will not drop a second Carrion token if gibbed again.
  • Flexible Monster Types: In D4D alone, you can choose either D4D monsters or Classic monsters, but not both. Not anymore! Here, not only can you adjust which individual monster is of the D4D or Classic variation, but you can also set them to "Both" and one of the two variations will spawn randomly for each of that particular monster spawned. Want to play with the classic monsters but don't want the hitscanners? No problem, just set the Zombieman, Shotgun Guy, Chaingun Guy and Spider Mastermind to use their D4D variations instead!
  • Stealth Monsters:D4D alone didn't support stealth monsters. This addon adds support for them in (in both D4D and Classic flavours!).
  • Super Shotgun Availability in Ultimate Doom: If this option is enabled, then in Ultimate Doom, if you have a regular Shotgun, the Super Shotgun (or Vortex Rifle if the multiplayer weapons are enabled) has a chance to spawn in locations where the regular Shotguns are placed (note; Classic Shotgun Guys will not drop Super Shotguns).
