Overview of the programme
Our Spring Insight Programme is designed for students in their first year of university (or second year if completing a four year course) who are considering a career in financial advisory. 

The programme, centred on our Global Advisory division, will serve as an introduction to our M&A, debt and restructuring and equity advisory businesses, giving you a valuable insight into life as a banker at Rothschild & Co. During the programme, you will have the opportunity to experience the working environment by spending time shadowing junior bankers, as well as taking part in informative skills sessions, listening to presentations and networking with senior bankers. We also run tours of our historical archives so that students can see for themselves how our success across two centuries has been shaped by the involvement of the Rothschild family, and how our business model makes us truly unique.

Strong candidates will also be offered the opportunity to go through a fast track assessment process for the folllowing year's Summer Internship Programme.

Qualifications, experience and competencies required
We are looking for candidates who possess a strong academic background (on track for at least a 2:1 or equivalent in their university degree) in addition to being motivated to learn and a good team player.


Jay Goffman joins Rothschild & Co as Vice Chairman, Global Advisory North America

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rothschild & Co today announced that Jay Goffman has joined its Global Advisory business in North America as Vice Chairman. Reporting to Jimmy Neissa, Mr. Goffman will advise clients across Global Advisory’s Restructuring, Debt and M&A practices. He joins from the global law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, and will be based in New York.

Jay is a global authority on restructuring and he is consistently recognised for his leadership in the industry. He is an innovative dealmaker and his experience and expertise will provide immense value to our clients as we continue to grow our business in North America,” stated Jimmy Neissa, Head of Rothschild & Co North America. “Jay’s proven ability to develop business-oriented solutions for clients and to create deep long-term relationships makes him a strong fit with our culture. Prior to joining Rothschild & Co, Mr. Goffman was the Global Co-Head of Skadden’s Corporate Restructuring Group and has over 36 years of experience in restructuring and M&A. He has been named among The Decade’s Most Influential Lawyers by The National Law Journal and has been recognised for his dealmaking ability by publications such as American Lawyer and Financial Times, where he was recognised as a “pioneer” and a leader of out-of-court and pre-packaged restructurings. He has been profiled by The Wall Street Journal on several occasions, including his record-setting restructuring of Blue Bird Bus Co., which was completed in 32 hours. He was also responsible for engineering the quickest billion-dollar pre-packaged restructuring in history with his six-day process of Roust Inc. in 2016. Mr. Goffman holds a BS from The State University of New York at Binghamton and a JD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In his role as Vice Chairman, Global Advisory North America, Mr. Goffman will report to Mr. Neissa and will work closely with Homer Parkhill and Stephen Antinelli, Co-Heads of North America Restructuring.

    Led by Doug Terreson, this team provides research coverage on integrated oil and refining, marketing stocks, and portfolio strategy views across the energy sector. The team also covers the major commodities in the global energy space, including crude oil, natural gas, and refined products.

    Doug has covered the global energy sector since 1988. He provides timely investment ideas through extensive financial analysis for energy equities and commodities as well as meetings with corporate and government officials around the world.

    The team's research efforts include the integrated oil and refining and marketing sub-sectors, the largest components of the global energy equity space, relevant for U.S. and international investors.

    Oil Service, Equipment & Drilling

    Evercore ISI's Power & Utilities team, headed by Greg Gordon, provides both bottom-up and top-down research coverage on regulated utilities, diversified power, and utility stocks as well as merchant power.

Firm bolsters presence in North America with opening of new Boston office

Senior hire continues expansion of Global Advisory business in the Americas

NEW YORK, August 31, 2021--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rothschild & Co today announced that Bob Berry has joined its Global Advisory business in North America as a Managing Director in the Financial Sponsors Group. Mr. Berry brings more than three decades of investment banking and sponsor coverage experience to Rothschild & Co, where he will help manage and grow the firm’s relationships with private equity clients. He will be based in Boston.

Rothschild & Co also announced today the opening of a new office in Boston. The firm remains committed to growing its footprint in the Americas and the opening of its seventh office in North America is validation of its strategy.

Previously, Mr. Berry was a Managing Director in the Financial Sponsors Group with Truist Securities. Prior to this, he headed the Consumer & Retail Groups at both Truist and Raymond James. Mr. Berry also served as co-head of M&A at Raymond James after successfully selling Lane Berry & Co, an M&A boutique that he co-founded and served as President, to Raymond James. He also was a Managing Director in the Financial Sponsors Groups at both Credit Suisse and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, and he started his career with Kidder, Peabody & Co. Over the course of his career, Mr. Berry has worked on more than 200 financings and M&A transactions. He is a graduate of Boston College with a B.S. in accounting and finance.

It has been an independent adviser on over 430 equity offerings since 2009 with a combined deal value of over €390 billion, across the full spectrum of IPOs and other equity offerings. The work is heavily skewed towards transactions rather than pitching, with a strong pipeline of deals and the team works closely with the M&A sector teams as well as our market-leading debt advisory team. The programme begins with an intensive classroom training programme covering technical skills (accounting, valuation and modelling) as well as internally led presentations and soft skills training.

Day to day:

After the training, you will join the Equity Advisory team for the remainder of the Internship. There will also be networking events and learning sessions over the course of the summer. You will be given meaningful responsibility as soon as you join the desk, allowing you to fully encounter day-to-day life at Rothschild & Co. At the end of the Internship, you could be considered for a permanent role on our Graduate Programme once you have finished University.

Qualifications, experience and competencies required

  • On track for a minimum of a 2:1 or equivalent in your university degree
  • Genuine interest in Equity Advisory with good commercial awareness
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Good computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
