Question:Q:

Sorry - I do realize that strictly speaking, this is probably not the place for my question but I

can't see any other category for my question that is more suitable. The problem is that I

do not have any of the sounds in Words With Friends when playing the game even though

I do have the sound on the iPhone turned 2/3 of the way up. What can I do to restore the

sound? I have the very latest version of WWF that I just downloaded today.

Cheers

Answer:A:

On the iPad version, Settings are accessed by the 4 bar icon (Menu) and then a gear shaped icon, but there isn't any sound setting there -- just account, password change, Chat Notification control and Privacy.

In the current version (and in older versions for at least the past year) on the iPad there are no sound settings anywhere inside the game. The only sound control specific to the game is in Settings > Notification Center > then select the Words app; obviously that only controls the notification sound. It could be different on the iPhone app but I don't have access to that.

Make sure in the WWF settings you have sounds turned on. Tap the 3 bars on the top left of the screen, select Settings, tap Game Options, make sure Play sounds is on.

If that doesn't work your iPhone: hold down the home and sleep buttons, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons.

Hello Deggie,

Tap the three bars in the top left of the screen?

The top of the screen has four icons - W 312 silhouette of a man +

In this latest version or WWF you can't see the three bar icon.

Now that you mention it, there doesn't seem to be a way to access the Settings for the game.

Cheers

In my iPad it is still a 3 bar icon that says menu underneath it You are correct there is nothing for sound under the iPad version. But since the OP posted in the iPhone forum and didn't state they have an iPad I assumed they had an iPhone. There is a mute sounds switch under Settings in the iPhone version of the software. Perhaps the OP is not clear on which device they own.

The Internet Patrol

The Internet Patrol - Patrolling the Internet for You

How many times has it happened? You miss that it’s your move in Words with Friends because you’ve turned the sound off on your phone. So you turn it on, and instantly get annoyed all over again by all of those other Words with Friends sounds. You know the ones – the sounds that get made within the Words with Friends game every…single…move..you…make. Argh! Well, it’s actually really easy to turn off all of the game sounds in Words with Friends, while still being notified with a sound when it’s your move. Here’s how.

The secret is in the settings screen within the Words with Friends game, which you access by clicking the little yellow menu icon in the upper right corner of the screen:

The reason that it’s a secret is that the settings screen actually has several sections, which you wouldn’t know from first looking at it. When you first click on “Settings”, this is what you see;

But scroll down a bit – through this screen:

Until you hit the very bottom, and there it is!:

Just set that setting to “off”, and your game play will be silent.

“But,” we can hear you saying, “if I turn off all of the sounds, then we are back to the problem of not knowing when it’s my turn to play a word in Words with Friends.”

Not so.

Go to the general settings area on your iPhone:

..and select “Notifications”.

And select Words with Friends:

Once in the Words with Friends settings, scroll down past the first screen:

words-with-friends-settings

And make sure that ‘Sounds’ is set to ‘on’:

This will keep on the alert sounds that alert you to when it is your move, while the annoying game sounds will be silenced.
