Jasper County Warrants and Arrest Records Search

An arrest warrant search in Jasper County, IA, is not as convenient as other Iowa jurisdictions. However, this does not mean that searching for outstanding warrants is impossible. Searches take a bit more investigation and perseverance.

Jasper County gets its name from a hero of the American Revolution, although the town itself was not founded until almost 70 years after the Revolution. Since its founding in the mid-1840s, Jasper County has grown, with a recent census reporting nearly 37,000 people. Newton is the Jasper County seat, where most county offices are headquartered, including the sheriff and the Jasper County District Court. During the first decade of the 21st century, there were, on average, 594 crimes per year in Jasper County.

When the District Court issues a Jasper County arrest warrant, it bases its actions upon a reasonable belief that the person named in the warrant committed a specific crime. Arrests deprive people of their freedom, so our judicial system has specific requirements for issuing a valid arrest warrant. Often, individuals are apprehended quickly after a warrant issued for their arrest. However, there are numerous outstanding warrants in Jasper County, which means there are active warrants which have yet to be satisfied. While the paperwork requiring the arrest of an individual exists, the person has not been located and taken into custody. Conversely (and putting all skepticism aside), some people who are the subject of a warrant genuinely are unaware of the warrant’s existence. Their desire to clear their name once they become aware of the situation compels them to undertake a warrant search.

What resources are available to individuals who come to learn or suspect that there is an outstanding warrant with their name on it? If the person being searched for is the defendant in a case, the Iowa Courts Online Search Tool (maintained by the Iowa Judicial branch) may help as it lists parties’ names, bail hearings, service of court documents, and other court dockets entries. At the site, users may search cases by name, case identification number, or citation number. Additional required information may include any aliases used by the defendant and the location (county) where the offense took place.

However, neither the Jasper County Sheriff’s site nor the Jasper County, IA official website guides how to do a specific online search for Jasper County’s outstanding warrants. Thus, the best thing to do is contact the Jasper County sheriff’s office, located at the Jasper County Law Enforcement Center, 2300 Law Center Drive, Newton, Iowa50208. The phone number to call for non-emergency situations is (641) 792-5912.

To obtain information about arrest records and criminal histories, start with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s Criminal History Records Check online https://iowacriminalhistory.iowa.gov/default.aspx.For a fee of $15, individuals may search for limited information on criminal backgrounds. For those seeking detailed information on criminal history, a waiver signed by the search subject is required.

Jasper County, Iowa - General County Info

Jasper County, founded in 1846, is named for William Jasper, a noted American Revolutionary War hero. The county is situated in the middle of the state and its county seat is Newton. [1] Newton is the most populous city in Jasper County, and its history is awash (pun intended) with the washing machine industry. After World War II, the Maytag Corporation located its headquarters in Newton, where it remained a leading appliance manufacturer until the early 2000s. Whirlpool acquired Maytag and closed the Newton plant in 2007. The legacy of the Maytag name continues in Jasper County, however. The Maytag Dairy Farm in Newton, started by the son of the appliance company founder, sells the award-winning Maytag Blue Cheese. [2] Now, green manufacturing and sustainable energy production are emerging industries in Jasper County. The county is bordered by Marshall County to the north, Poweshiek County to the east, Mahaska County to the southeast, Marion County to the south, Polk County to the west, and Story County to the northwest.

Inmate Search in Jasper County Jail

The Jasper County Jail does not have an available list of inmates incarcerated in their facility. The State of Iowa, however, supports the Victim Information and Notification Everyday system, so you can visit the site to check and receive notifications on the custody status of an offender. It’s recommended to visit the Jail personally at 2300 Law Center Drive, Newton, Iowa or call them at (641) 791-7081 for inquiries.

    Important Jail Policies and Procedures

An inmate must be serving time over 7 consecutive days or be here on charges to be visited.
For the sake of this policy the visitation week will start on Sunday and end on Saturday.
Each inmate will be allowed two 30 minute visits per week.
These visits cannot be back to back with the same people. If scheduled back to back all visitors from group A must be different from all of group B.
Visitors must be on your visitation list, unless otherwise noted below, and must meet the jail criteria for a valid visitor. The visitor cannot visit if they have been in jail here in the last 6 months. The visitor cannot visit if they pose a threat to the safety and security of the facility.

    Classification of Visitors

Adult visitors – anyone age 18 and over is considered an adult. These visitors must be on your visitation list and must have a valid state issued identification.
Teen visitors – anyone age 16 or 17 is considered a teen here. These visitors must be on your visitation list and must have a valid state issued identification. Teens must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or legal guardian. Legal guardians must have official paperwork to show staff.
Children visitors – anyone age 15 or younger are considered children here. These people do not have to be on your visitor list and do not need identification. Children must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or legal guardian. Legal guardians must have official paperwork to show staff.

A visit can consist of, but is not limited to, any combination of adults, teens and children.
Maximum number of adults at one visit is 4. If there are 4 adults then no children are allowed.
Maximum number of adults, teens and children allowed at one visit is 5 with no more than 2 adults in that 5 people.

Staff reserve the right to allow more children if only 1 adult is bringing in more than 4 children.
Staff reserve the right to deny anyone in a group to visit if the person is disruptive or cause a safety and security concern.

The visit starts at the time the appointment is made, if the visitors are late to the appointment the time is just lost. For example, if the visit is scheduled for 10 a.m. and the visitors don’t show until 10:15 a.m. they will only see the inmate for 15 minutes. If the jail causes the time delay we will extend the visit to make up the time.

Visitors will be required to call the jail by 2100 hours (9:00 p.m.) the day before they want to visit.
Visitors cannot set up recurring visits, they must call every week.
Visitors cannot schedule two visits back to back with the same people.
When visitors call in they must provide the number of adults, teens and children that will be at the visit.
They must also provide the names of all persons 16 and older so staff can check to see if the visitor is on the inmate’s visitor list. People who show up that are not on the list will not visit.
Parents, grandparents, and legal guardians are responsible for the health and safety of all teens and children they bring into the building.
Visitors should call 641-791-7081 for a visit.

You can call the inmate message system number at 641-792-6712 where you can leave a message for an inmate to pick up themselves in the cell. You simply follow the automation when you call and you will be required to enter the numbers that correspond to the first three letters of the inmate’s last name.

    Sex Offender Search and Lookup

All registered sex offenders are registered on either a national or state sex offender database. The people on these databases have been convicted of a sex or kidnapping crime. The definition of a sex offender is a person convicted of a crime involving sex, including rape, molestation, and production or distribution of child pornography.

You can access this information online for Jasper County by going to this link, but bear in mind that searches sometimes reveal primary last known addresses or, rather the block that they live on. You are also required to accept a disclosure to use the database.

    Bail and Bail Bondsman

The bail and bond process is used to secure your release from jail in exchange for meeting certain conditions. It is imposed to ensure that you will make your court dates and not commit any further offenses while out. An Iowa criminal lawyer will bring up the issue of bail at your initial appearance before a judge. The judge makes a determination as to the conditions for your release until your next court date.

Just as Iowa provides sentencing guidelines, it offers guidelines for bail bonds. The bond schedule for crimes other than forcible felonies and misdemeanors is as follows:

Manufacturing or delivery of certain controlled substances – $25,000
Felony for manufacturing or delivery of certain controlled substances – $50,000
    Class B felony – $25,000
    Class C felony – $10,000
    Class D felony – $5,000
    Aggravated misdemeanor – $2,000
    Serious misdemeanor – $1,000
